ABSTRACT
The study was set to establish the effect of supply chain information management on organizational performance at Mukwano group of companies. It was based on three objectives which included assessing the effect of supply chain information capture on the performance of organizations. Determine the extent to which supply chain information storage affects organizational performance and to establish the role of Supply chain information flow on organizational performance. The study used a correlational research design based on both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study employed a sample population of 40 respondents from Mukwano group of companies. The study findings were that supply chain information capture affects the performance of organizations through the following. Mukwano Group of Companies collect data from respondents that are 30 respondents representing 75% Of the total respondents, information is collected using questionnaires according to 50% of the respondents, sales reports had 25%, evaluation reports had 15% and performance guides had 10% of the total respondents and the Challenges faced in data capture at Mukwano group of companies. The findings revealed high costs of data capture with 37.5% of the total number of respondents, Failure by some parties to avail data had 25% of respondents, Limited skilled data collectors had 20% and limited tools for data collection had 17.5% of the respondents. It was also established that storage is through computer or manual systems. computerized data storage is of benefit Mukwano group of companies through storing large data storage capacity according to 35% of the respondents, Does not require a lot of space like manual had 30% of respondents, Convenience had 25%, It is ease to update than manual had 15% of the respondents Manual data storage at Mukwano group of companies is of benefits through data storage is less of errors in entry according to 50% of respondents, Provides more details than computer had 30% of the respondents, provided for evidence had 20% of the respondents. The challenges of computerized storage systems were that errors in data entry had 62.5% of the respondents, High costs do not allow computer use at all levels of supply chain had 20% and Hacking especially by customers had 17.5% of the respondents. The challenges of manual data storage were that it occupies a lot of space than computer according to 65%, requires trained personnel to manage. In relation to the sharing of information 55% of the respondents agreed that departments share information whereas 45% argue otherwise. The findings on the challenges of information flow in Mukwano group of companies were that competition due to sharing information that limits confidentiality, Unclear internal computerized and sharing service, Data enors that fails acquisition of clear information, Poor information systems that does not allow sharing of information amongst branches and high costs of managing information systems. The challenges encotmtered in inter-organizational information sharing at Mukwano group of companies are many this were seen to include loss of confidentiality, high costs had 27.5% while 15% was recorded for poorly established information systems. The researcher proposed recommendations intended to improve the supply chain information management at Mukwano group of companies for cases of improving the performance of the organization as showed above.
