Teacher's Attitudes Towards Leaners With Mental Retardation In Regular Primary Schools In Wote Zone Makueni Kenya

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to understand the Teacher's Attitude towards Learners with

Mental Retardation. The study centers on the categories of Mental Retardation to

measure Learners Retardation.

The study has three objectives which were to describe systematically the Teacher's

attitude towards Learners with Mental Retardation in Wote Zone Makueni District. It was

to find out whether there are learners with Mental Retardation in regular Primary school

and which category of Retardation do they fall. It was also to explore the possible

differences in these reports as a function of sex of the learners and the language used. It's

also intended to make recommendations to the Teachers, Parents as well as

recommendations for further research based on my research in Wote Zone.

Different tools were used to collect data which were interviews, questionnaires, and as

well as observation and Sample size. The fmding indicated that that learners experience

Mental Retardation in categories of Mild, Moderate, Severe and Profound Retardations

The researcher made recommendations on Teacher, Schools and Parents on how to

handle and to take care for Learners with Mental Retardation and to let every school age going children have legal opportunity for attending school however much retarded.
