Teachers Knowledge and Development of Instructional Materials in Pre-Schools in Transmara East District, Narok County, Kenya

ABSTRACT 

The study looked at the teacher’s knowledge on the development of instructional materials in pre-schools in Transmara East District, Narok County, Kenya. The purpose of the study was to investigate if there is a significance relationship of the teachers knowledge and the development of instructional materials. The objective of the study was to determine the profile of the school teachers and to investigate if their knowledge influences the development of instructional materials. The study applied a descriptive and correlational survey designs. The target respondents were all the nursery school teachers of Transmara East district. Out of the population of 124 nursery school teachers a sample of 95 teachers were obtained. To obtain the data, the researcher employed the questionnaires to collect data on profile information, independent and dependent variables. To analyze the data, the researcher used the frequency and percentage on profile of respondent and the mean on the level of independent and dependent variable. The researcher found out that there is gender imbalance in the teaching of the schools. A small percentage of male teachers indicate that teaching of pre-schools do not attract them as to their female counterparts. The female teachers constitute 79.66% while 20.34% are male. Also some teachers are untrained and others have very low education and indication that there is need for the teachers to train to provide the necessary education. In the recommendation, the researcher advised the government to train teachers, employ teachers and design a body that pay and employ them in order to attract teachers with better qualifications.
