Teachers Quality and Students Achievement in Private Secondary Schools in Borama District, Somali Land

ABSTRACT 

The study was about Teachers’ quality and students’ achievement in selected private secondary schools in Borama District Somaliland. It was guided by five objectives:- determining the profile of the respondents as in gender, age, qualification and experience; the extent of teacher quality in terms of lesson preparation, lesson delivery and teaching lesson aid; to determine the level of students’ achievement and to determine if there is significant relationship between teachers’ quality and students’ achievement Using descriptive correlation and ex post facto design. The study employed a sample of 133 form four secondary school students’ from two private secondary schools in Borama district Somaliland. The finding showed that the majority of the respondents were male; the extent of teachers’ quality was fair (mean=1.95); the level of students’ achievement was fair (mean= 2.12). A positive significant correlation was found between teacher quality and students achievement (sig = 0.050). From the findings, it was recommended that there is need to improve teachers’ quality to it better. Teachers need to go for further training; and that better teaching should be encouraged to students to get better grades and these who have better ones to maintain them.
