ABSTRACT
Solar cells based on ITO/InP have been shown to possess a
remarkable potential for space applications. The determination of
the terrestrial and simulated-space stability of any type of solar
cell is important in obtaining the payload power requirements of a
spacecraft which will be powered by that type of cell. In this
work, a preliminary investigation of the terrestrial stability of
ITO/InP cells has been performed. The cells were stored in the
dark for six months in thermostatically-controlled custom-built
chambers maintained at 25°C and 60°C. Current voltage (I-V) and
capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements were taken every two weeks
over the six months period. The results show an increase in Isc
which indicates an enhancement in the spectral response of the
cells. The junction carrier concentration, depletion layer widths
and Voc were found to be fairly constant indicating that the
junction is stable under the storage conditions employed,
