ABSTRACT
This project is designed to study “the capital market and its impact on the Nigerian economy with particular emphasis on the stock exchange.
In most developing countries, the establishment and efficient operation of capital market has come to be accepted as an important prerequisite for rapid economic development consequently, Nigerian government is in haste by participating in the establishment and even continuously intervening in the operation of the capital market to achieve the country’s macro-economic objectives.
It is revealed that government intervention in form of Acts, policies and regulatory control have contributed immensely to the development and expansion of the market and that the market could be a force to be reckoned with in terms of provision of long-term capital for the co-operate bodies and the government in Nigerian; but because of some problems inherent in the market, it has not fully realized its Primary role as the prime mover of the economy and for stimulating economic growth and development if the country continue to develop economically and with the implementation of suggestion put forward in the study.
