The Contribution Of Foreign Tourism Investors To The Growth Of Small Tourism Enterprises: A Case Study Of Nungwi – Zanzibar

ABSTRACT

This study evaluates the contribution of foreign tourism investors to the growth of Small Tourism Enterprise (STEs) in Nungwi - Zanzibar. The study is focusing to identify the contribution of foreign tourism investors, also to determine what constitutes the growth of small tourism enterprises through critical assessment, to determine the relationship between the provisions of employment opportunities created by foreign tourism investors to the growth of small tourism enterprises and measures taken by foreign tourism investors in initiating development projects leading to the growth of small tourism enterprises in Nungwi. Also the study involved government officials, ZIPA headquarter in Zanzibar, foreign tourism investors and small tourism enterprises in Nungwi- Zanzibar. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze information by frequencies and percentages. The researcher also, applied Microsoft Excel and SPSS packages in construction of charts in data presentation. Moreover the qualitative data including closed ended questionnaire and interviews from the key informants were analysed through content analysis, summarizing the key findings regarding variables. Presentations of qualitative data followed the research objectives based on themes. The study recommends that, it is necessary to intensify capacity building to STE practitioners and influence them to start dialogue of partnership among STE practitioners towards strong intensive corporate that can bring challenges to FTI. Moreover, policy awareness to STE practitioners and community need to be well known. The capacity building of the responsible government officers, in terms of the skills enhancement and provision of required working implement to enable them effectively and accurately in their performance are highly recommended. And last, foreign investors and government board concern to provide material assistance in term of loan and capital aid so as to fostering small tourism enterprises in their tourism business activities
