ABSTRACT
The study examines the contribution of government to the sustainability of inclusive education in Zanzibar. Specifically the study assess the government supervision on inclusive education, identify the appropriate instructional materials of teaching and learning to the inclusive education and to examine the challenge(s) facing in teaching and learning environment in inclusive educational at Urban District in Zanzibar. Both primary and secondary data were used during the study whereby social survey and structured interviews were used as method of data collection. Data analysis employed using both qualitative and quantitative method. The quantitative data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 15 and qualitative data analysis was done using content analysis, a method that examines artifact of social communication, which included written documents or transcriptions of record verbal communication such as interviews and field notes. The findings of this study unveil that the existing system is unsatisfactory such as advanced teaching and learning materials. Besides, the schools have inadequate professional qualified teachers, unfavorable environment and poor participation of parents and community as a whole.
The study recommends that the ministry of education and others stakeholders should cooperate together to promote friendly partnership with donor countries and international financial institutions to help schools of Zanzibar to establish special schools that will favor disabled students in terms of infrastructures, teaching facilities and prepared special grounds for playing different games and sports, also should see the importance to offer special programs in the University dealing with disabled students. Finally, parents should eradicate inferiority complex and should understand all people have equal rights to get education like other people.
