The Contribution Of International Non Governmental Organizations To Promoting Children’s Rights To Education In Tanzania: A Study Of World Vision In Dodoma Region.

ABSTRACT

This study is on the Contribution of International nongovernmental organizations on promoting children’s rights to education in Tanzania, the study takes World Vision Tanzania in Dodoma Region as case study. Broadly the study aimed at examining the contribution of World Vision in promoting children‟s rights to education in Tanzania. Primarily the study was based in providing an overview of the state of children‟s rights to education in Farkwa and Mundemu wards by examining the contribution of World Vision in promoting access to primary education for children. To examine the contribution of world vision in providing basic assistance such as school fees, desks, uniforms, construction of dormitories and classrooms, and to identify strategies to be followed by World Vision Tanzania in order to overcome the obstacles. To provide comprehensive results a dual research design (qualitative and quantitative) was used, questionnaires, interviews were used to collect data from Seventy respondents from Dodoma region. The combination of purposive and random sampling techniques were used to sample respondents. Data analysis included descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages and SPSS were used for data analysis. A descriptive analysis has revealed that there are obstacles that World Vision is facing in promoting children‟s rights to education such as community illiteracy, poor government support, Early marriage and suggested ways to overcome those obstacles such as, raise community awareness through education, emphasize on cooperation between INGOs and NGOs, community and government in promoting children‟s rights to education. The study provides recommendations including review of Act No24/2002, , raise community awareness through education, and the Government should enforce the existing laws and policies in order to discourage early marriages were among the recommendations.
