ABSTRACT Education is a Fundamental human right. It is guaranteed under the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child. This research work explores the extent to which Non-Governmental Organizations provide support to the girl child education in Kampala district. The report is based on both primary and secondary data analysis. More specifically, the Study aimed to (i) establish the contributions of NGOs in educating the girl child; (ii) identify some of the factors that limit the girl child education; (iii) examine the challenges and (iv) provide solutions to the challenges encountered by NGOs in promoting girl child education. The study employed a qualitative approach and data was collected by using instruments through the use of extensive literature review supported by qualitative interviewing of key role players in the education system. The data returns reported similar factors influencing or hindering girls’ education e.g. girl’s, parent’s and community’s negative attitudes and therefore, the informants emphasised on community sensitization and awareness activities to address negative attitudes towards the girl child. The results indicated that one of the major factors impacting management efficiency of Non Governmental Organizations is reduced funding which has affected their capacity to effectively lobby, develop, deliver and sustain themselves to support the education of the girl child adequately. As a way of increasing access to the girl-child education, the study recommended that NGOs, teachers, parents and guardian should be educated and be reminded of their primary responsibility in caring for and ensuring that their children especially the girl-child obtain minimum formal education.
