The Effectiveness of Employees' Performance Appraisal in Organizations: A Case Study of Igara Tea Estates Bushenyi District

ABSTRACT his study examined the effectiveness of employees' performance appraisal in organizations: . case study oflgara Tea Estates. A survey was used to collect the data, whereby simple random m1pling was used to select 248 respondents of Igara Tea estates. The qualitative data was ollected through the use of questionnaires and face to face interview. The objectives of the tudy were to; 1 Investigate the effectiveness of employees' perf01mance appraisal m Igara tea estates. 2 Assess the methods involved in employees' performance appraisal process in Igara Tea Estates. 3 Identify risks involved in enforcing effective employees' performance appraisaL Data was collected usmg the closed-ended questions and was analyzed using tables and percentages. Focus Group Discussion, Key Informant Interview and observation were used where necessary and possible. The findings revealed that employees at Igara Tea Estates were not fully involved in performance appraisal making it ineffective. Generally, the study found out that some of the employees didn't know what performance appraisal is all about. From the findings; it was recommended that the top management should press for more effective participation of employees in evaluating their own work. Straight forward channels of communication and coordination should be put in place to allow the flow of information from the top management to the last employee.
