ABSTRACT
This work is designed to investigate the effects of strike on workers for an effective work to be done. Enugu state civil service was embarked or chosen as a case study. The effectives of the project were further ensured by concentrating investigation on these labour unions mainly for their role in the trade unionism in the state. The unions are the Enugu state wings of the civil service union of Nigeria, civil service technical workers union of Nigerian and the Nigerians union of teachers. The writer used library research as a source of his data because the library provides various means of information documentation. This information is needed to showcase the authenticity for the current work done. In addition, personal interview were also used to get firsthand information for the study undertaken from the actual actors in the industrial relations scene. In this respect, interview guide questionnaire were also used to ensure that proper direction is maintained in the course of the interview. Respondents for the interview were drawn from the trade unions mapped out for this study. Date obtained through the library research and personal interview were tabulated and interpreted using the historical and descriptive methods of data analysis. The study also used the sample percentage score and tabular methods in testing the hypothesis. From the fact and historical statistical data available it was found that infrequency or eve lack of strike actions is not in direction of industrial peace. It was further stated that strike can be caused by certain factors like suppression in promotion exercise, non implementation of agreed terms of service, lack of information and trust among others. Effect of strike found includes law workers moral leading to reduction in quality and quantity of service rendered, change in workers consumption patter, loss of job, reduction in savings and investment damaged to property ad other resources etc.
