The Impact Of Drug Abuse In Schools Of Kanyuambora Zone, Mbeere District, Kenya

ABSTRACT

The study aimed at investigating the impact of abuse of drugs in Kanyuamhora zone

Mbeere district Kenya. This is because drug abuse has become a global problem and the

impact is being felt in the social, economic, physical and health related areas. It’s also an

emerging issue as this problem has quickly spread to the most vulnerable groups, the

students and pupils. The objective of the study was to identify and analyze the extent of

drug consumption by taking these drugs, the resultant effects of taking the drugs and the

possible intervention measures to avoid further harm. The research reviewed related

literature in chapter 2 which gave an overview of how drug abuse was discussed by

various writers. This was followed by chapter 3 which covers how the data was discussed

by various writers. This was followed by chapter 3 which covers how the data was

collected. The research used random sampling to come up with the target population.

The design used was to distribute the sampled population. This data was then analyzed

by the use of graphs to represent the information gathered. A lot of ethical consideration

was put in place to guard the confidentiality and dignity of the respondents. The data

collected was then thoroughly discussed in chapter 5 and findings drawn from the

discussions. The draw conclusions from the discussion were that drugs were posing and

threatening to clear our younger generation which may lead to economic and social loss

of the nation’s workforce. This implied that urgent intervention measures needed to be

put in place to reverse this situation.

The recommendations made called for an urgent policy document on drug and drug abuse

and the introduction of drug and substance abuse as a subject in the curriculum both at primary and high school level.
