The Impact of Large Enrolment on Regular Pupil Assessment Under Thematic Curriculum in Primary School Of Masindi District.

ABSTRACT This is a report on tile study of~‘the Impact of large enrolment on regular pupil assessment under thematic curriculum in primary schools of Masindi district”. This study was carried out in two Counties of Masindi District, i.e. Buruli and Counties. Two Sub Counties from each County were selected, i.e. Karujubu and Miirya in Buruli; and Kigumba and Kiryandongo in Kibanda. Five schools with the highest enrolment from each ofthe four Sub Counties were selected for this study. The study objectives were intended to find out Whether large enrolment has an effect on regular pupil assessment in P1 and P2 classes in schools ofMasindi district in the Counties of Kibanda and Buruli from 2007 to 2008. If the records of pupil performance for P1 and P2 classes are regularly kept at school from 2007 to 2008. Ifthere are irregularities in assessment in P1 and P2 classes of Masindi district in the counties of Kibanda and Buliisa. Solutions to irregular pupil assessment in P1 and P2 classes ofMasindi district in the Counties ofKibanda and Buruli. The study was carried out by administering the following instruments onto the respondents: Structured Questionnaires. Structured Interview Guides. Structured Observation Forms and some Secondary sources of Data. The respondents in this study were: 20 Head teachers, 20 Deputy Head teachers in-charge Academic, 40 Class teachers. 8 CCTs and 2 County Inspectors. The key findings of the study were the following: Large enrolment negatively affected regular pupil assessment in P1 and P2 classes in primary schools of Masindi district in the Counties of Kibanda and Buruli. Assessment records are kept by Class teachers but not Head teachers and Deputy I lead teachers in-charge academic (table 4.6. 4.8 and 4.9). Head teachers needed training in thematic curriculum to enable them monitor and supervise its implementation.
