THE ISSUES OF CORRUPTION IN GOVERNANCE: A STUDY OF NIYI OSUNDARE’S THE STATE VISIT

This paper examines corruption in governance in Nigeria, using Niyi Osundare's The State Visit. Osundare condemns corruption which he sees as appalling in Nigeria. He states that embezzlement of funds among government officials is on the increase. Unemployment soars; there is a poor state of infrastructural facilities. Those in the academics are not left out of corruption as they compromise their supposedly intellectual integrity and honesty as a result of lust for power and opulence. There is the hypocrisy of the religious leaders and the underprivileged who are oppressed by the rich in the society.  Finally, the paper reveals how Osundare views corruption as detrimental to any nation that wants to develop; as such, the best solution is to uphold integrity and do things in the the right way.
