The Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights: A Case Study of the United Nations

Abstract:

This study investigates and analyses the efforts the United Nations has made in promoting and protecting women’s rights since its inception in 1945. It also analyses the challenges that the UN has faced as a global body in the process of promoting the women’s rights and human rights in general. This study is necessary because not only is the promotion of rights a central mandate for the UN, but because it is considered a critical means for achieving other development goals such as eradicating poverty and hunger and facilitating sustainable development , all requires systematic attention to the needs, priorities and contributions of women as well as men. I embarked on this study because the UN is a global body, whose membership encompasses states from both the developed and developing world and therefore the issue on violation of women’s rights all over the world would be better solved by this global body. There is an urgent need for continued support for the UN to enable it address discriminatory issues affecting women. This study will rely on use of secondary data and it will be collected through documentary analysis.
