ABSTRACT
Background
Implementing the recommended management protocols for Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy is a key for delivery quality maternal care. Appropriate care to pregnant women is needed to reduce the risk of complications related to this condition. Early detection, careful monitoring and appropriate treatments of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy is required for the better maternal outcome.
Objectives
The aim of this study was to assess the quality of antenatal care for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and associated maternal outcome among post-deliverywomen in Zanzibar
Method
Ananalytical cross-sectional study design was conducted among 366 pregnant women with hypertensive disorder of pregnancyat five Hospitals in Zanzibar, aconveniencesampling technique was used to select participants and aninterviewer administered questionnaire and reviewing the patograph and RCH card no 4 were used to collect data. Data was analyzed using Statistical package for a service solution SPSS version 20 software program, whereby descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (logistic regression) were employed, and frequency, chi square and odd ratio were reported.
Results
Findings revealed that, nearly three quota 243(66.4%) received good quality of antenatal care for hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, and majority 305(83.3%) were adhering to anti hypertensive managements. Moreoverthe antenatal quality careunder study showed a significant association withmaternal outcome, controlling for (AOR= 0.292,p=0.001).
Conclusion
Majority of respondents under study received good quality of antenatal care.
More over high number of respondents adhered to antihypertensive drugs.
Also this study tell us that good quality of antenatal care influenced the desirables maternal out come.
