The Relationship Between Staff Motivation And Students’ Performance In Selected Secondary Schools In Lira Municipality

ABSTRACT

The study carried out in the selected schools in lira municipality was meant to primarily

analyze the relationship between staff motivation and students ‘performance; the specific

objectives of the study. Meanwhile also to find out the level of performance of students and

to establish the forms of staff motivation in place in the selected Schools in Lira

Municipality. The data was collected through two sources; primary and secondary datas that

facilitated the attainment of this report. Data analysis was through the aid of Microsoft excel

where tables and figures were used to present finding. The study was cross sectional and

descriptive in design using both qualitative and quantitative methodology.

The level of performance of students in Lira Municipality was not reasonably progressive in

nature as some schools registered total fall in the performance level with others experiencing

a slight improvement meanwhile others remaining constantly poor. Achievement,

Socialization, Incentive motivation, Fear motivation, Change motivation, Power motivation,

Growth motivation were the forms of staff motivation in place in the selected Schools in Lira

Municipality.

The positive relationship between staff motivation and students ‘performance in the Schools

in Lira Municipality were that it promotes togetherness and unity among the staffs,

encouraged the staffs to work hard due to the fact that the staffs are given or paid effectively,

created a conducive working condition of environment for the staffs. Facilitated change,

created a better image to the staffs, high efficiency, and helped in increasing productivity;

negatively, it planted reluctance and laziness in teachers, Created inequality among the staffs,

led to less work coverage on the part of staffs, Corruption and embezzlement of funds, and

the emergence of conflicts that led to poor academic performance on the part of students,

Recommendation was however channeled to both the students and teachers for boosting

improved academic performance; creation of good working conditions for the staffs to enable

them work smoothly including prompt payments, working hours being favorable to enhance

or encourage learning, and good relationship between students themselves and the

administration to create good understanding among them were greatly recommended to staffs and students respectively in comparison to other recommendations.
