Introduction

Alien invasive species are introduced accidentally or intentionally outside of their natural geographic range & become problematic.

Semimytilus algosus spreads from the point of introduction, rapidly colonising & establishing populations on the rocky shore, disrupting native perna perna species (Alexander et al. 2015)

Semimytilus algosus is native to the west coast of South America, Ecuador, Chile & the San Fernandez Islands.

The invasive Semimytilus algosus competes with the native Perna perna for food & space on rocky shore (Bownes & McQuaid 2009)

Objective

To investigate the relationship between the abundance of Semimytilus algosus on the abundance of Perna perna along the intertidal zone of Dolphin beach.
