The rule of law is the basis of any well-established legal system and Islam is not out of the picture. In other words, the doctrine of rule of law is well settled under Islamic law and various scholars has over the years examine the applicability of these cardinal rule in Islamic and hitherto the effect on the people especially where the doctrine is not followed. This lengthy piece aims to achieve that goal of discussing legal approaches to the rule of law in Islamic law, it is divided into four parts. The first chapter introduces the reader to general rule of law concepts and also covers the scope of the work and the methodology used. Literatures of the concept are included, and several references related to this area of research are also reviewed. From there it proceeds to Chapter 2, where, among other things, it argues that the doctrine of the rule of law is ingrained in Islam and has been of paramount importance to all Islamists since the time of the Noble Prophet. That is; all rulers, all ruling Islamic communities, must properly abide by the rule of law enshrined in the doctrines of Islam. Chapter 3 describes legal approaches to the rule of law. In doing so, this chapter examines both the prophetic approach and the approach taken by early and later Islamic jurists to the doctrine of the rule of law under Islamic law
