THE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE NUMBER OF ADMITTED AND RELEASED CHILDREN IN THE MOTHERLESS BABIES HOME

Motherless babies have nowadays become common because of moral deca-
dence of the society, young people who cannot cater for themselves and nd
themselves put in a family way end up abandoning their babies. The increas-
ing hardship of the present economic recession has increased the incidence of
burden on families and the consequent loss of rm control of family members.
Time series analysis is use to model the admission and release of children in
the motherless or orphanage home and the data use for this study is collected
from the child care unit, Ijokodo, Ibadan. The child care unit is one out of
the four zones under the Ministry of women's aairs in Oyo state, Nigeria.
Autoregressive moving average (ARMA) used to model the data series. The
highest numbers of boys and girls are admitted in the month of April and
June respectively and the highest number of boys and girls are released in the
month of November and February respectively. Boys are admitted the more
in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 compare to girls and are released the more in
the year 2012, 2014 and 2015 compare to girls. ARMA(2; 0; 1) and ARMA
(2; 0; 2) has the best model for the data on the admitted and released children
respectively with AIC (564.28 & 576.96)respectively.Based on the ndings in
this study, it can be concluded that the number of the admitted children
keep increasing and the number of released children shows a down trend.
