ABSTRACT

This report was concerned with Water accessibility and community Welfare of Logoba parish of Moyo district carried out in May 2012 using Descriptive survey. The main objective of the study was to assess the impacts of Water Quality and Quantity on the community Welfare; specifically, the research was: To find out the major sources of Water in the parish To find out the problems associated with Water use in the parish and To find out the measures those ‘a crc put in place in the parish for better management of Water. The primary data was collected through a simple random sampling technique by administering questionnaires and interviews to 60 respondents mainly at major sources of Water. 30 respondents were purposively selected 10 in each three villages under investigation to give reliable and detailed data on the problem being studied totaling to 90 respondents. The findings of the study presented in lbrm of tables and figures were; most people in the parish live in grass thatched houses hence contravening their ability to harvest rain Water. Water accessibility was a great challenge in the parish. Boreholes frequently broke down. Water sources got polluted through animal taking Water directly from the source, most people took bath from the open sources of waler and careless cultivation of shores of rivers and reclamation of wetlands. Policies available were weakly implemented and people were not treating their drinking Water because of low level of education and environmental education in the parish.Therefore. the researcher concluded that the people in the parish were traditional, unaware about environmental hazards related to water, and were not managing their available water properly hence recommended that they practice agro forestry, provided adequate extension officers in the parish to sensitise the community, active participation of all stake holders in decision making process and lastly more research needed to be cari’ied out to best solve the problem of water.
