Abstract
This study evaluated the workplace recreation and employee wellbeing: A study of the Nigerian University commission. The specific objectives are to: to determine the effect of physical fitness programmes on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission, to establish the effect of mental health programmes on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission and to identify the effect of workplace entertainment on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission. The study used descriptive research method. The population of the study comprised of 748 staff of Nigerian University Commission while Taro Yamane formula was used to arrive on the sample size of 230. The data was analysed with simple percentage analysis while all the hypotheses were tested with Simple Linear regression at 0.05 alpha level. The research made the following findings: that physical fitness programmes has significant effect on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission, that mental health programmes has significant effect on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission and that workplace entertainment has significant effect on employee wellbeing at Nigerian University Commission. The study concluded that physical fitness programmes and mental health programmes had a significant positive effect on employee wellbeing and performance. It was recommended among others; that to enhance job satisfaction among employees, organizations should offer recreation facilities and activities that are of interest to employees bearing in mind their different tastes, gender, age and among others. This will encourage the employees to engage in recreation activities that they enjoy most.
