The report is about the public lecture in attribute of Sarah Nitro that is annual. Held at Makerere University. The public lecture captured the contributions and efforts of the earlier actors of the Uganda Women movement. And it is part of the academic series aimed in celebrating the 30 years of the oldest school of women and gender studies in Africa.
Uganda practices what is called legal pluralism. Where more than one type of law is practiced in her jurisdiction. The customary laws, statutes, common laws (case laws, legal precedents). Despite all these laws. Maternal health is insufficiently covered by the law. As there is little guideness of the law on this issue but even the overall law as a block is seemingly gender biased, neutral and blind. Colonialism is just another paradigm shift that changed the course of gender relations in many colonialised states within Africa. It introduced new and foreign leaderships styles that where gender baised, new family relations came in, (head of family) and the overall Victorian patriarchy which undermined the power and position women held in African societies before the emergency of this colonialism.
