Africa Union Intervention in Africa: Efficacy of the African Union Mission in Somalia

Abstract:

An unprecedented re-occurrence of armed conflict and civil strife within n the African Continent since independence of its nation states continues to pose serious threat to the continent's stability and development raising disquieted both domestically and internationally. I n cognizance of this, significant efforts have been put in place in recent years to ameliorate these conflict situations and in seeking to consolidate of post-conflict reconstruction processes. In this regard, the African Union and other regional organizations have increasingly played an active role in matters related to peace and security on the continent. However, their efforts have been accompanied by a myriad of uncertainties and major challenges both at the security and operational level. This thesis thus aims to examine and analyze the specific African Union efforts towards peace and stability in Somalia, through its Peace Support Operation the African Un ion Mission in Somalia (AM ISOM), which is encouraged by the idea of promoting African solutions to African problems and the challenges faced in so doing.
