Abstract

This research was undertaken to find out the attitudes towards chosen Technical Education, Five research question was raised. Some of the factor investigated include parental, societal, Gender, peer group and students interest. The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of the perceived factor into making effective career decisions in technical education. The objective was achieved by analyzing the data obtained on the sampled population, using survey research design and interval or systematic random sampling techniques. The sample consist of 150 JSS3 students drawn from five secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The instrument used for the survey is a questionnaire, which has two sections (A and B) and 20 items. Analysis of the data revealed that parents have been ineffective in influencing students career choice in Technical Education, society is yet to influence students career choice in Technical Education positively, gender has influence students career choice in Technical Education, peer group to some extent have been quite effective in influencing students career choice in Technical Education, and interest had greatly influenced students choice of career in Technical Education positively. From the above findings, conclusion were drawn and some recommendations were made which include that Government should assist by making provisions for materials in schools that can motivate both genders to make desirable career choice in Technical education and Parents should help student to understand themselves, know how to get on with others, learn manners and practice social skills to enhance their career choice in Technical Education programmes.
