ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was is to examining the challenges of teaching information and communication technology in rural schools of Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to investigate the describe the challenges of teaching ICT, evaluate the JCT ]earning programmes for students and to assess levels of interest in and attitudes towards ICT among students, teachers and parents and to assess the positive impact of ICT exposure in the lives of students and the improving practices that have resulted. The methods used for dat~ collection was questionnaires to the staff members of the school and students involved in the study. In chapter four, the findings were presented and interpreted in relation to the study objectives and research questions. While linking to the existing literature, results included demographic characteristics, frequency and percentages. Based on the :findings it ,:vas observed that there were computers in the school only that there is no qualified staff to help in the teaching of students information communication Technology, also the findings showed that the school lacked power to run the computers efficiently. Summary of the findings and conclusions were attempted. The :findings suggested recommendations that the school authorities should malce sure that they have a reliable source of energy that facilitates the efficient use of computers, the study also recommended that Information technology teachers should efficiently be trained.
