dependent variable. The purpose of the study is to establish whether there is a relationship
between economic growth and unemployment in Nigeria. It was guided by the objectives which
are to determine the level of economic growth, unemployment and the relationship between both
variables.
The hypothesis of the study was that there is no relationship between economic growth and
unemployment in Nigeria from 1990-2011 and t and f tests were used in analysis. In the
methodology, secondary data sources such as online sources, journals and textbooks were used
and data got online was analysed using correlation and regression analysis.
On correlation, there was a weak positive relationship (r= 0.3608) between economic growth and
unemployment in Nigeria at an assumed 0.05 level of significance and the researcher found out
that there was a weak positive relationship between the variables . Finally, the study recommends
the agricultural sector as a medium of reducing unemployment in Nigeria. It also advocates
increased labour promoting investment strategies to help curb the high level of unemployment in
the country.
