DEVELOPMENT OF A SOLAR POWERED CAR

ABSTRACT: This project work is on the development of a solar powered car. It involves the design and fabrication of a solar powered car with a carrying capacity of two and a maximum speed of 30 km/hr, which runs entirely on a stand-alone solar system. The car is a unique prototype sedan car. It is designed with dimensions of 3 meters’ x 1.6 meters'. The maximum load carrying capacity of the vehicle is 700 kg and it requires a driving force of about 4.3 kW. The solar car uses a clean engine...

Design and fabrication of a PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) crushing machine.

Due to the need for recycling Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE) materials, especially bottles because of its various uses and applications, it was necessary that a locally made machine for crushing and shredding the PET materials was fabricated. The crushing process is necessary so as to aid the transportation and workability of the material. This is a paper work for the activities carried out in the design, construction and fabrication processes.

Maintenance, supervision and inspection at a water treatment plant.

Clean and potable water is one of the basic infrastructures any responsible government needs to provide for its people. I was part of a team of competent engineers that carried out inspection, repair and maintenance of facilities at a water treatment plant. This is a paper work for different maintenance and supervision activities carried out at the water treatment plant. I employed my engineering skills in inspection, maintenance and supervision of the machines, making sure that they are up a...

DESIGN OF SEDIMENTATION TANK TO RESUSCITATE PHYTOREMEDIATION IN OVERLOADED OBAFEMI AWOLOWO SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

The discharge of raw sewage or improperly treated sewage into water bodies has always had a threatening effect on aquatic lives and that of human that uses the water on the downstream. Such is the case of Awba Lake which is currently being polluted by effluents from Obafemi Awolowo sewage treatment plant. The treatment plant is currently overloaded and macrophyte (water hyacinth) used for phytoremediation in the treatment plant can no longer survive under such high organic condition. This pro...

Comparative Assessment of Rice Husk Ash, Powdered Glass and Cement as Lateritic Soil Stabilizers

COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF RICE HUSK ASH, POWDERED GLASS AND CEMENT AS LATERITIC SOIL STABILIZERS. ABSTRACT This paper compares the stabilizing effects of three different materials, namely: rice husk ash, powdered glass, and cement on the properties of lateritic soil. The basic properties of the lateritic soil were first obtained through colour, moisture content determination, specific gravity, particle size distribution and Atterberg limits tests. Each of the stabilizing materials was th...

Design and Fabrication of journal Bearing Testing Rig

ABSTRACT This project work deals with the design and fabrication of a suitable journal bearing test apparatus which can help in visualizing the behavior of journal bearing and its characteristics, and in determining the bearing parameters such as load bearing capacity, maximum oil film temperature, viscosity of lubricant, oil film pressure, and coefficient of friction based on experimental analysis. The work covers the design of a test apparatus which can be utilized to check the behavior of...

A Model for Economic Production in Manufacturing Industries Under Unstable Power Supply.

The research study presents the development of a model for Energy cost in manufacturing industries under irregular power supply. The work considers power consumption in the operation of production machines, hence cost incurred in running of these machines Parameters such as machine types for production, numbers of machine types for production and power ratings of machines for production were also considered in the development of the model The study employs linear programming approach in formu...

Production of Kenaf Fibre Reinforced Polyethylene Composite for Ballistic Protection

Kenaf reinforced polyethylene composites for ballistic protection was produced in this work. The samples of alkaline treated and silane-coupled non-woven matted kenaf fibers were cut to the required dimensions and oriented vertically and horizontally in combinations with a virgin high density polyethylene (VHDPE). The composite panels were produced using Box-Behnken 3-variables settings. The following factors settings were used (molding temperature: 160 0C to 200 0C; molding time: 60 minute...

CONSTRUCTION OF SMOKE DETECTOR

Abstract A smoke detector is a device that senses smoke typically as an indicator of fire or non- smoking zone.  In order to ensure human safety and safeguard property against fire in both domestic and commercial settings, different solutions for smoke detection have been developed, a comprehensive literature was carried out on smoke detector, this project describes the construction and design of a micro controller smoke detector, it discusses the components used, design methodology and test...

PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION OF PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE WATER USING TITANIUM DIOXIDE AS PHOTOCATALYST

ABSTRACT The potential advantage and application of the photocatalytic process using titanium dioxide as the photocatalyst to treat industrial waste water in UV irradiation has been reported. The aim of this work is to investigate the effectiveness of photocatalytic degradation using TiO2 in treating pharmaceutical waste water. Wastewater was collected from the homogenous tank of effluent treatment plant (ETP) of a Pharmaceutical company. The raw sample was tested and the COD, BOD and pH we...

Evaluation of yield characteristics cum determinant factors in earth mound method of charcoal production using billet of Acacia nilotica

ABSTRACT Tree residues are generated in large quantity in our environment. Nowadays, adding value to these residues could make them become item of economic importance. The aim of this study is to adapt a traditional method of charcoal production (Earth Mound) in order to add value to the tree residues generated in University of Ibadan with a view to enhance the benefit derived from them. The billets of Acacia nilotica were converted from both wet and dry wood samples. The billets were t...

Charcoal Yield from Urban-Tree Residues Generated in University of Ibadan, Nigeria using Earth Mound Method

Abstract The cost of managing ornamental and naturally growing trees in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, is becoming challenging. Adding value to the residues from these trees with a view to enhance its economic value will minimize the management cost. This study adapted Earth Mound method of charcoal production to add value to tree residues generated in the University of Ibadan to enhance its economic value. Mixed residues of Acacia nilotica (Acacia), Albizia zygia (Ayunre) and Melicia ex...
