Studies on Survival of Trachysphaera Fructegina Tabor & Bunting Causing Mealy pod Disease of Cocoa Theobroma Cacao L.

ABSTRACT Conidia of T. fructigena did not germinate at any relative humidity from zero to 10C% R.H. Germination in distilled water^was very poor, less than 2.0 per cent at the optimum temperature, 25 C. PDA encouraged 96.8 percentage germination at 25°C. The conidia germinated very poorly on PDA at 35°C and a temperature of 40 C killed the conidia in approximately 1 2 hours. T, Frutiger conidia would only survive in atmospheres of extremely high humidity. Best survival occurred at 10($ R.H...

Occupational Hearing Loss Among Night Club Workers in Accra

ABSTRACT Background: Employees of night clubs are at a greater risk for developing hearing loss because they could be exposed to dangerously high noise levels. Elevated noise levels may lead to adverse effects including elevated blood pressure and sleep interference. Communication in the workplace may also be affected, contributing to the occurrence of accidents. The most serious side effect of noise however is irreversible hearing impairment, and this occurs as a result of damage to the del...

Examination of Human Skin Surfaces For The Detection of Mycobacterium Ulcerans

ABSTRACT Mycobacterium ulcerans, causes Buruli ulcer (BU), a necrotizing skin disease endemic in 33 countries globally. Its environmental reservoir and mode of transmission are unknown. Portaels hypothesized that prior skin contamination followed by penetration through existing skin abrasion or trauma may be a possible route through which M. ulcerans is transmitted to humans. Comparative epidemiological and case control studies have outlined some risk activities associated with BU that could...

Modelling Extreme Temperature Behaviour In Upper East Region, Ghana.

ABSTRACT The impacts of extremely high temperatures on plants, human beings and animals’ health have been studied in several parts of the world. However, extreme events are uncommon and have only attracted attention recently. In this study, extreme temperature behaviour was modelled through the application of extreme value theory using maximum monthly temperatures over a 32 years period. Data on monthly maximum temperature from the Upper East Region were modelled using generalized extreme ...

Some Inequalities For The (Q, K)-Digamma Function

Abstract Some inequalities involving the (q, k)-digamma function are presented. These results are the (q, k)-analogues of some recent results.

The (Q, K)-Analogues Of Some Inequalities Involving The Psi Function

Abstract In this paper, the (q, k)-analogues of some inequalities involving the Psi function are presented. These results generalize some earlier results presented by W. T. Sulaiman. The approach is based on some mononicity properties of some functions involving the ψq,k function.

Genetic and Root Growth Studies in Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz): Implications for Breeding

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a perennial tropical crop grown for its starchcontaining tuberous roots. It is cultivated mainly by small-scale farmers and consumed daily by an estimated 500 million people. Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) has long been recognized as a major limiting factor to cassava production in Africa and severe epidemics hit Uganda in the late 1920’s and late 1980’s. In spite of its importance as a major food crop it is the least researched major crop and many ques...

Peak Skin Dose Estimation in Adult Examinations For Selected Multi Detector Computed Tomography: An Approach For Patient Dose Optimization

ABSTRACT Computed Tomography (CT) is a valuable tool among diagnostic imaging modalities. However, the increase in its utilization has resulted to a considerable increase in its contribution to the collective dose from medical exposure. The main aim of this study was to propose a patient dose optimization method from exposure parameters that would estimate the peak skin doses (PSDs) to patients undergoing chest CT and abdomen CT examinations. PSDs were estimated on the surface of a Perspex C...

Body Wasting Among Tuberculosis Patients In Urban Uganda

Background Although body wasting is a cardinal feature of tuberculosis, its etiology and management is poorly understood; and its assessment is overlooked in research and in clinical practice. Objective We established whether body wasting modifies survival and body composition changes during and after tuberculosis treatment; whether HIV modifies dietary intake among tuberculosis patients; whether dietary intake differs by wasting and severity of disease status; and whether dietary intake inf...

Degradation of Cocoyam(XANTHOSOMA SAGITTIFOLIUM L.) by Three Isolates of Sclerotium Rolsfi SACC. And Its Control

ABSTRACT The morphological characteristics of three isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii from Aburi (AB), East Legon (EL) and Legon campus (LC) were studied on PDA at an incubation temperature of 28ºC. Radial growth of mycelia and the production of sclerotia were more pronounced in the East Legon (EL) and Legon campus (LC) isolates. When the red and white cormels of cocoyam (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) were inoculated with the various isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii, the white cormels were more resi...

Effects Of Repetitive DNA And Epigenetics On Human Genome Regulation

The highly developed and specialized anatomical and physiological characteristics observed for eukaryotes in general and mammals in particular are underwritten by an elaborate and intricate process of genome regulation. This precise control of the location, timing and amplitude of gene expression is achieved by a variety of genetic and epigenetic tools and mechanisms. Such tools include cis- and trans- transcriptional regulation, epigenetic marks and chromosomal conformation in the nucleus [7...

Conditional Inference

ABSTRACT. Conditional inference is a branch of statistical inference in which observed data is reduced using either sufficient or ancillary statistics. This often simplifies inference about the parameters. In comparison to full likelihood methods, conditional inference theory's performance still needs validating in many areas. Some of these are the concern of this thesis.

Forecasting Of Climate Variables In Mbeya Region

ABSTRACT Tanzania, like other countries in the world, is affected by climate change. There is enough evidence to substantiate this that comes from the increase of temperatures across the country over the past thirty years. Despite the mitigations approved to attack the problem of climate change in the country, forecasting of climate variables is a prerequisite. Studies about climate change that have been conducted in Tanzania have mainly focused on assessing the weakness and adaption to the ...

Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and some applications in Physics

ABSTRACT Given a Lie algebra g and its complexication gC, the representations of gC are isomorphic to those of g. Moreover, if g is the corresponding Lie algebra of a connected and simply connected Lie group G then the representations of the Lie group in question are isomorphic to those of gC. This thesis explains the basic concepts of Lie groups and Lie algebras. Further, the basic representation theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras, particularly those of semisimple Lie algebras is discuss...

A Study On The Role Of Green’s Function In Solving Boundary Value Problems

ABSTRACT The study of Green’s Functions and applications of BVPs solving different integration has been put in place in order to provide a broad understanding to the existence of Green’s Functions on solving Ordinary Differential Equations with nth order. The Green’s Functions plays an important role in solving boundary value problems of Ordinary Differential Equations. The solutions of some BVPs for linear ODEs can be denoted by its Green’s Function. Some BVPs for nonlinear Differen...
