Web based passenger ticket reservation and management system1

Chapter oneIntroduction1.1 Background of the StudyIn the advanced world like China, Britain, Australia and the United State ofAmerica, ticketing system are usually automated with the use of internet and e-commerce. Smart cards are usually used to make payment and ticket generatedafter. The use of electronic ticketing system has increasingly helped to address theproblem of long queue and time wastage problem. (Watts, 2012).An electronic ticketing system is a computerized system that is designe...

PRODUCTION, CHARACTERIZATION AND UTILIZATION OF GUAVA FLAVOR CONCENTRATE

ABSTRACT This study was carried out to investigate the characterization and utilization of guava flavour concentrate produced from two guava cultivar using simple distillation technique for the flavor extraction. The physical properties of the flavor concentrate were determined and then utilized in the formulation of guava drinks with three different clouding agents (gum Arabic, garri aliquot and cheese-whey). The guava drink samples were also evaluated for different quality attributes whic...

ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL OF Emericella nidulans AGAINST SELECTED PATHOGENS

ABSTRACT Endophytic microorganisms have proven to be potential sources of antimicrobials against recalcitrant pathogens. Extracts of an endophytic fungus, Emericella nidulans  exhibited antibacterial  activity  against  selected  pathogens.  Emericella  nidulans  was  cultivated  in broth and fermented at 28 ± 2°C for 7days and 21 days to obtain bioactive components. Solvents extraction of bioactive compounds from Emericella nidulans in the order of their polarity – n-Hexane, et...

Efficacy of Combined Crude Extract of Curcuma longa and Moringa oleifera in the Prevention of Peptic Ulcer in Albino Rats

Aim: This study is aimed at investigating the prophylactic efficacy of combined extract of Curcumalonga and Moringa oleifera leaf against indomethacin–induced ulcer in albino rats.Place and Duration of Study: This research was carried out in Ibadan Nigeria betweenNovember 2017 and January, 2018.Methods: Fifty (50) healthy male albino rats with body weights between 150 and 200 g were usedfor this study. They were randomly divided into ten groups of five rats each. Group I was  administered...

Hepatoprotective Effect of Parkia biglobosa on Acute Ethanol-induced Oxidative Stress in Wistar Rats

Aim: This study is aimed at investigating the hepatoprotective effect of Parkia biglobosa on acuteethanol-induced oxidative stress in wistar rats. Methods: P. biglobosa was purchased from a local market at Orita-Challenge area of Ibadan,Nigeria. They were sun dried and milled into powder using an electronic blender (Moulinex). Thepowder was extracted using n-hexane. Twenty adult male wistar rats with body weight between120 and 150 g were purchased from the Central Animal House, College of Medi...

Site Suitability for the Installation of Additional Continuously Operating Reference Station

Abstract The advent of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in space technology has tremendously improved the methods of positioning and navigation. Countries are now adopting the continuous observation and measurements using a network of GNSS receivers called Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) as the standard. Hence, the study explore the CORS network in South West Nigeria and carry out site suitability analysis of the potential locations considered suitable for the insta...

EFFECTS OF FERMENTED PALM WINE ON SOME DIARRHOEAGENIC BACTERIA

The effect of fermented palm wine tapped from Raphia palm tree (Raphia hookeri) on the growth ofsome common diarrhoeagenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysentariae and Esherichia coli 0157:H7 was carried out using agardiffusion method. The palm wine used had growth inhibitory effect on all the test organisms withdiameter of zones of inhibition ranging from 2.20mm to 28.20mm. Palm wine subjected tofermentation for 168hours (7 days) exerted...

Nutritional and AntiNutritional Evaluation of Garri Processed by Traditional and Instant Mechanical Methods

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the nutritional and anti-nutritional composition of garriprocessed by traditional and instant mechanical methods.Place and Duration of Study: This study was carried out in Achara, Uturu and analyses weredone at the Biochemistry and Central Laboratories of Gregory University, Uturu, Abia Statebetween March and July, 2017.Methods: Cassava was harvested and processed in Achara area of Uturu, Abia State. For garriprocessed by instant mechanical method, ca...

Purification and characterization of rhodanese from sprouted maize

Rhodanese, a cyanide detoxifying enzyme, was isolated and partially purified from malted maize (Zea  mays) using 85% ammonium sulphate precipitation and ion-exchange chromatography on CM- Sephadex C-25. The specific activity of the enzyme obtained was 5.07RU/mg protein with a yield of  9.6% and purification fold of 2.13. The Michaelis constant (Km) values of the substrates sodium  thiolsulphate (Na2S2O3) and potassium cyanide (KCN) were 80 mM and 300mM while their Vmax were  4.86 RU/ml/mi...

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF Aeromonas spp FROM POND WATER AND FISHES IN ILE-IFE OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT The study was carried out to isolate, characterize and investigate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of Aeromonas species isolated from pond water and fish samples at Sabo and Iloro pond sites in Ile-Ife, Osun State.  Physicochemical parameters of the water samples such as pH, temperature, total dissolved solid (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) were determined using standard methods. Aeromonas species was isolated by the spread plate technique for ...

A review of documented findings on Text Summarization for Children news rendering

News rendering involves the representation of News in a suitable and usable manner essentially for better understanding. Over the years there has been severe interest in the ways by which this representation is being formulated. These concerns are majorly issues around the target audience especially children. Many approaches to re-render news objects to children have failed as they alter the semantics of the body of the contents. The difficulty has been a gap that necessitated the study. We ...

Essentials of Microbiology in Forensic Medicine

ABSTRACT Forensic microbiology as an evolving field in forensic medicine, is a scientific discipline dedicated to analyzing evidence from a bioterrorism act, biocrime through the study of microorganisms in order to determine the path of an outbreak, the identity of a criminal or the origin of a particular strain of biological weapon or contagion (Budowle et al., 2006). The involvement of microbiology in forensic medicine is known as “microbial forensics” and its processings ...

The effects of cement dust on Amaranthus Viridis.

ABSTRACT The   experiment   was   carried   out   to   investigate   the   effect   of   cement   dust   pollution   onAmaranthus viridis in respect to growth, heavy metal uptake and the plant in general. Loamysoil was polluted with Dangote cement in a ratio of (100:1). It was observed that the presenceof cement dust in the polluted soil did not affect the germination time of the plant. Upongrowing the Amaranthus plant were polluted with 10.2gcement dust at 3datys in...

The potential protective effects of Diphenyl-diselenide (PhSe)2 on Mercuric chloride-Induced Nephrotoxicity in female wistar rats

ABSTRACT  Evidences have implicated free radicals or reactive oxygen species in mercuric chloride-induced nephrotoxicity. Diphenyl diselenide (PhSe)2, a simple and stable organoselenium compound, has been proposed as a good candidate for pharmacological and therapeutic purposes. This particular study was designed to investigate the protective effect of (PhSe)2 against mercuric chloride-induced nephrotoxicity.  In this study, 44 female Wistar rats with weights ranging from 125g and 180g were...
