ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of HIV/ AIDS on the education of
selected primary schools of Keiyo district, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study
were to. determine the effect of HIV/AIDS on the enrollment of children in school,
determine the relationship between HIV/AIDS and school drop out, determine the
challenges teachers face in regards to the HIV/ AIDS pandemic, determine the Impact of
HIV/AIDS on teachers' participation in education and Investigate the challenges faced by
children living with HIV/AIDS in school. The methods used for data collection were
questionnaires to the students and interviews with the teachers. The findings revealed that
HIV/AIDS has led to drop out and low enrollment ofchildren in school, and has hindered
the participation of children and teachers in education. The study recommended that, the
community. students and teachers should be sensitized about stigmatization. Through
education. schools can also help to reduce stigma and discrimination - a major problem
for people around the world who are living with HIV. Teachers should be taught more
about HIV/ AIDS and also taught effective methods on how to teach about aids to
students. Teachers who expand their understanding of the subject while researching for a
lesson can pass this information on to adults as well as students, and the same can be said
for the children themselves; once informed about AIDS, they can go home and tell their parents or their friends what they have learnt.
