ABSTRACT 

The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the internal recruitment on employee performance. It was to find out the internal recruitment policy or practice, the impact of the internal recruitment process, the challenges associated with the internal recruitment practice and ways to help improve human resource planning and development. The study obtained information from twenty (20) respondents from staff of Mulago Hospital in Kampala through the use of questionnaire. The results indicated that, use of MoPS/HSC and employee referrals are mostly the mode for internally recruiting potential employees, it was also realized that the method used in the internal recruiting process was very effective and moreover helped improve employee performance. The study revealed that internal recruitment process was also characterized with lots of challenges, among the recommendations made were that potential employees should all be treated fairly during the internal recruitment process, more so employees must be appraised constantly to ensure that they improve upon their performance.
