ABSTRACT
The study sought to investigate the mode of communication and the preferred channels for communication at the head office of the newspaper organisation; Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL). It also sought to find out employees’ knowledge of the tools used by management in communicating with them.
The mixed-method approach was used for the data collection. Interviews were conducted with 3 managers purposively selected and the data analysed using thematic areas. One hundred questionnaires were also administered in a survey. The systems theory and the stakeholder approach to internal communication guided the study.
It was found that the GCGL had a communication policy and employees were generally aware of the channels used by management for communicating with employees. It was also found that the notice board, face-to-face, meetings and memorandum were the highly preferred channels by employees. Importantly, the findings revealed that though information flow from management to employees was good, feedback for effective and interactive communication was not prompt.
