Geochemical Evaluation Of Selected Samples Of Biniwei-1 Well Anambra Basin

ABSTRACT

Biomarkers or geochemical fossils are organic molecules that are present in petroleum  and   also in   plants   and  animals.   These   biomarkers can  be correlated back along the above pathway to identify source beds, correlate oil families and make interpretations about depositional environments andpost-depositional   histories.   To   describe   a   sample   chemically   meansamassing   the   largest   amount   of   data   possible.   The   particular   analysesrequired   must   be   selected,   based   on   cost,   availability   and   chemicalcharacteristics   of   the   sample.   Evaluation   of   the   hydrocarbon-sourcepotential is a more standard procedure. The analyses must provide threepieces of data: quantity, type and maturity of organic matter present. HenceBiniwei well-1 of the northern Depo belt –Benin flank has been probed andthe parameters depicts that its environment of deposition, maturation indexand hydrocarbon potential to be a productive zone.
