ABSTRACT.
The study on school resources and student's academic performance was carried out in
secondary schools of Central Division Tran-Zoia West District Rift Valley Province .The
objectives of the study were to find out; the resource availability in schools and their
accessibility, to establish the relationship between school resources and academic
performance, to find out steps taken by government to improve school resources.
A sample size of 204 was used out of the total population of 680, because Kerlinger had
supported this size of population as eligible sample to avoid robust nature of the
investigated population that might interfere with the researcher's investigation. This
sample was reached using a stratified sampling technique.
The data collection instruments were; questionnaire, observation, and interview, later
analyzed through tabulation, graphs and charts to ease the interpretation of the
information gathered. Data was analyzed using inferential statistics.
The finding of the study were that lack of resources has played Avery detrimental role in
the performance of the students in Tran-Zoia District
This was proved beyond reasonable doubt since 86% of the people investigated alluded
that schools cannot perform well as expected without the necessary requirements for the
teaching and learning process. These included books, laboratory, teachers finance, and
classes to accommodate the growing population. All these came as a result of insufficient
funds allocated to schools through CDF and perennial corruption in the education sector.
Lastly researcher recommended the following; the government should try and curb corruption which has been a perennial problem to the government, the responsible authorities should revise teacher's performance, various schools should be built to avoid congestion of students in secondary schools in Tran-Zoia District in Kenya.
