ABSTRACT This study was to establish the relationship between socioeconomic status and students’ progressive reports on performance in secondary schools in Mandera East District, Kenya. It was found out that socioeconomic status of parents from the sampled schools fairly poor. Male students dominated female students and majority of the students were aged between 17-19 years. Socioeconomic statuses of parents affect the academic progressive reports on performance both positively and negatively. This means that either an increase or decrease in the performance of the students. The purpose of the study was to establish the effect of parents’ education level, occupation, and economic status on the students’ academic progressive reports in secondary schools in selected secondary school of Mandera East District, Kenya. The research objectives of the study were to; i) determine the profile of secondary school students in terms of gender and age; ii) determine the academic level of students’ progressive reports on performance in secondary schools in Mandera East District ;iii) determine the relationship between parent’s socioeconomic status and students’ academic progressive reports on performance in selected secondary schools in the district and iv) determine the relationship between parents’ provision of basic necessities and students’ academic progressive reports at secondary school level. The findings indicated that parents’ provision of basic necessities in 4 years, are significantly correlated and so rejected the null hypothesis with provision vs overall years (r=.288, sig. = .014). The researcher concluded that the socioeconomic status of parent and sti~dent’s academic progression is significantly correlated. This implies that the lower the parents’ socioeconomic status the decline in student’s academic progression. From the findings and the conclusions of the study, the researcher recommends the need to uplift the socioeconomic status of parents of students in secondary schools in Mandera District since it was found to be very low and low in parents’ provision of basic necessities. The parents should start income generating projects with the small capital at private basis
