ABSTRACT The control of traffic at road junction, which was done purely by human effort, proves to be inefficient owing to the increasing rate of both motorists as well as the complexity of road networks. This inadequacy brought about the use of discrete solid-state electronics up to the usage of a computer controlled microprocessor, but the intelligence of this method was still limited to meet the demand of modern age. Thus, the needs ...
ABSTRACT The human hands harbour microorganisms both as part of a person’s normal microbial flora as well as transient microbes acquired from the environment. This study was carried out to isolate and identify Bacillus spp that are associated with the hands of apparently healthy female undergraduate students in Obafemi Awolowo University. The samples were collected using sterile swab sticks dampened into sterile 0.85% normal saline and processed immediately in the laboratory. The isolates w...
ABSTRACT Spectroscopic method was used to determine quantities of carotene and ascorbic acid in carrot, cucumber, eggplant and tomatoes. The result shows that carrot has higher concentration of carotene =0.1430, follow by eggplant = 0.6950 and tomatoes = 0.0368 and cucumber has the least concentration of carotene =0.0139. The result also show carrot has higher concentration of ascorbic acid 0.958×10-4 mol/d3 follow by tomatoes 0.944×10-4 mol/d3 and eggplant 0.943×10-4 mol/d3 cucumber 0.901...
ABSTRACT Coconut water is a natural nutritious beverage that contains several biologically active compounds. This study was set up to evaluate the antioxidant potential of coconut water. Twenty five adult male albino rats, used in this work, were grouped into five (A, B, C, D and E), of five rats per group. Groups A, B, C and D were administered orally with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0mg/kg body weight respectively of the coconut water for seven consecutive days. Group E was the control. Giutathion...
CHAPTER ONE1.0INTRODUCTION "Disaster management" can be defined as the range of activities designed tomaintain control over disaster and emergency situations and to provide a framework forhelping at-risk persons to avoid or recover from the impact of the disaster. Disastermanagement deals with situations that occur prior to, during, and after the disaster.Globally, there has been lots of disaster on land, air and sea, though these disasters maybe natural or man-made, it has however led to the...
ABSTRACT Vegetables has been an integral part of day to day diet for so many people in Kenya. It is used in the form of raw fruits, dried, powdered or cooked vegetables. This is a research that addresses this way of living to act as a precaution towards making the food healthier. It is with a significant concentration in Kenyatta market than Kagochi while chromium’s level was higher in Kagochi compared to Kenyatta market. From the above figures of heavy metals, it was concluded that ...
The quality of castings in a green sand mould is influenced significantly by its properties, such as green compression strength, permeability, mould hardness, and others, which depend on input parameters. The relationships of these properties with the input parameters, like sand grain size and shape, binder, water, clay, etc. are complex in nature. The goal of this paper is to determine the green sand mould compressive strength in case of input parameters. A good moulding sand however, must p...
ABSTRACT Cookies were produced from wheat, sorghum, and defatted coconut flour blends to determine their potentials in cookie manufacture. Eight Cookies formulations were produced and they were evaluated for their proximate, physical, mineral, colour and sensory properties. The result showed that the moisture content ranges from 7.10 to 10.89%, ash content ranges from 0.88 to 1.15%, protein content ranges from 9.18 to 12.25%, crude fat ranges from 9.59 to 11.00%, crude fibre ranges from 2.7...
Background: ABO and Rhesus factor (Rh) blood type are germane in human life in genetics and clinicalstudies.Aim of the study: The review was undertaken with the objective to provide data on the ABO and Rh(D)blood group distribution and gene frequency across Nigeria which is vital for blood transfusion and susceptibility to disease.Materials and methods: Literature search for ABO/Rh blood distribution in Nigeria was done and allele frequencies of A, B, O, D and d were calculated from the frequ...
The vibrations of axially functionally graded (AFG) beams are examined incorporating shear deformation and an imperfection. A coupled nonlinear model is developed in the Hamiltonian framework for an AFG imperfect beam. Different sources of displacement nonlinearities are involved in this problem, namely, the geometrical nonlinearities due to the large deformations, and the nonlinearities due to the presence of a geometrical imperfection along the length of the beam. Expressions for the virtua...

ABSTRACT Organic additives are agro-waste materials which when mixed with clay; improve its physical properties and its performance. These physical properties include compression strength, density, porosity etc. In addition to cost, challenges facing clay bricks are their reliability. The effect of some organic additives on compressive strength of clay bricks was investigated, were some possible organic additives, including Rice husk, Rice husk ash, Cow dung and Cow dung ash were considered. ...
Objective: To determine the noxious attribute of methanol extract of Nigeria bee propolis at 300 and 600 mg/kg body weight in rats. Methods: Healthy Wistar rats were indiscriminately assigned into three groups (A-C) of five rats each. The control rats (Group A) were orally given 0.5 mL of dimethyl sulfoxide daily for 21 days while rats in Groups B and C were administered the same 0.5 mL dimethyl sulfoxide containing 300 and 600 mg/kg body weight methanol extract of bee propolis respective...
Free radicals are highly reactive molecules generated during oxidation reactions which in turn initiate chain reactions resulting to cellular damage. There is substantial evidence implicating free radicals especially reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the etiology of more than one hundred degenerative disorders in humans including, arthritis, atherosclerosis, ischemia and reperfusion injury of many tissues, gastritis, diabetics, central nervous system injury, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome ...
