Effect of Fusarium Nygamai Infection on the Chemical Composition of Flour From Two Yam Varieties

ABSTRACT Yams (Dioscorea spp) are among the oldest food crops. It is estimated that after six months of storage up to 56% of the crop is lost to rot.  In Nigeria, fresh yam tubers are used for production of Elubo (yam flour) for preparation of amala, as it is called among the Yoruba in Western Nigeria, and akwunaji in the east of the River Niger. Many researchershave emphasized the importance of microbial rotting in causing storage losses. This study evaluated the effect of yam rot on the n...

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSES, ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES AND PROXIMATE ANALYSES OF NESCAFE CAFFEINATED, DECAFFEINATED AND LIVEN ALKALINE COFFEE

ABSTRACT The consumption of the popular beverage coffee, increases day by day. However, upcoming brands of coffee with health benefits made by claims of the product ignites curiosity in the components of the coffee. The current study deals with the phytochemical analysis, antioxidant capacity and proximate analysis of Liven Alkaline Coffee, Nescafe Caffeinated and Nescafe Decaffeinated coffee performed using standard procedures. The phytochemical analysis revealed higher contents of carbohyd...

Landslide Susceptibility Mapping of Oke Agbona Hill (okemesi) Using Gis, Ekiti State

ABSTRACT ͦ Many areas are exposed to different types of natural hazards including landslides, which can lead  to loss of lives, injury to people, damage to property and disruption of economic activities. This  project assessed the landslide susceptibility and quantifies the hazard and risk related to landslides  in Okemesi, southwest, Nigeria using remote sensing imageries and geographic information  system (GIS). The result revealed that slope, elevation, aspect, distance from road can ...

TOTAL ENERGY CALCULATION OF AlAs AND InAs BINARY SEMICONDUCTORS USING THE PROJECTOR AUGMENTED WAVE METHOD

The total energy of an element is the basic energy value from which other properties of the element can be calculated. Aluminum Arsenide (AlAs) and Indium Arsenide (InAs) are III – Arsenic binary semiconductors with indirect and direct energy band gap respectively. The total energy of each of them was calculated using the Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) method with the PBE-GGA for the exchange-correlation functional. The total energy were calculated and from the results gotten, the lattice c...

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE STUDENTS RESOURCE PORTAL

Abstract This project is about the design and implementation of the online student resources portal. It aims to overcome the study challenges that first and second year Business Information System (BIS) students are currently facing. Overall, this system is going to ensure that students have complete access to very important study resources or aids like online quizzes, past exam papers and discussion forums. This system when correctly implemented will be of immense importance in as far as th...

Synthesis, Characterization of Acid Orange 7 Dye on Cellulose Acetate Biopolymer

ABSTRACT The present paper describes the synthesis of Acid Orange(7)dye which can be used as dyes for cellulose acetate biopolymer. They were obtained by the diazotization of a monoazo component of the mono-azobenzene type, followed by coupling. The monoazo components were obtained by the diazotization of sulphanilic acid and coupling with 2-naphthol. The synthesized dye was later analyzed by GC-MS, IR and UV-Vis spectrometry. The dyeing performance of the dye was evaluated on cellulose aceta...

State-of-the-art in Artificial Neural Network Applications: A Survey

This is a survey of neural network applications in the real-world scenario. It provides a taxonomy of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and furnish the reader with knowledge of current and emerging trends in ANN applications research and area of focus for researchers. Additionally, the study presents ANN application challenges, contributions, compare performances and critiques methods. The study covers many applications of ANN techniques in various disciplines which include computing, science...

Evaluation of four baking temperature regimes and their effects on shelf stability of bread loaves

The work was done to determine the effects of baking temperature on the proximate, micronutrient, microbial and sensory properties of bread. The breads were baked at four different temperatures of 190, 200, 210 and 220 0C for BT1, BT2, BT3 and BT4 respectively. The protein ranged from 10.53% to 12.42% and a significant (p < 0.05) difference existed between the samples. The crude fibre ranged from 1.50% to 1.70% and a significant difference existed between samples BT1, BT2, BT3 and BT4. The fa...

Antimicrobial screening , nutrients profile and Pyhtochemical analysis of the leaf extracts of Tetrapluera tetraptera

ABSTRACT Phytochemical and Antimicrobial activity of the leaves of Tetrapluera tetraptera using aqueous and ethanolic extract was studied. The leave was observed to be highly rich in polyphenols, flavonoid, reducing compounds and alkaloids. Glycosides, saponins and tanins were present in small amount, there was absence of Phlobotanins, anthraquinones and hydroxyl methyl anthraquinones. In order to confirm the exact concentration of the Phytochemicals present in the leave of T. tetraptera, a ...

Design and construction of an automatic Battery charger

ABSTRACT This project describes the design and construction of an automatic Battery charger. Automatic Battery chargers are not particularly cheap, but the protection they afford in protecting batteries against overcharging and possible battery damage is highly desirable. However the work carried out through the construction and design of an inexpensive alternative to the commercially available fully Automat...

Herbal treatment of scorpion envenomation: Plant extracts inhibited Opisthacanthus capensis venom phospholipase A2 activity

Abstract: The inhibitory effects of Momordica charantia linn, Isoberlinia doka, Terminalia avicennioides, Tamarindus indica and Crotalaria retusa L aqueous leaves extracts on Opisthacanthus capensis (Black creeping scorpion) venom phospholipase A2 (PLA2 ) activity was investigated. The enzyme from O. capensis venom had a pH and temperature optima of 5 and 60˚C respectively with an activation energy of 5.20 Kcal/mol. Different concentrations (4mg, 6mg and 8mg/ml) of Isoberlinia doka and M...

Effect of Phosphorus fertilizer on growth and yield of cowpea

                         i.            Abstract Four types of soil are found in Liberia. Latosols of low to medium fertility occur in rolling hill and cover about three-fourths of the total land surface. Shallow, coarse lithosols, in the hilly and rugged terrain, cover about one-eighth of the land. Infertile regosols, or sandy soils, are found along the coastal plains they are deficient in nitrogen and phosphorus, which retard the growth and yield of crops. Therefore,...
