AN EVALUATION OF STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN NIGERIA

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the practice of strategic human resource management and its impact on corporate performance.

A survey including twenty six likert scale questions was conducted and distributed to a sample size of 200 participants comprising of the head of HR departments with other senior and middle management staff of the organizations under study.

The findings of the study revealed that some of the SHRMP are fully in place in the organizations, while others such as Employment security is not guaranteed in any of the organizations, Stock/profit sharing is also not fully adopted by some of the organizations.

The findings showed that strategic human resources management practices are an important and indispensable tool for any corporate performance and survival.

For any organization to achieve strategic advantage all human resources management functions should be designed according to the need of the organization and support the strategic planning process.

These functions should be transformed to a more strategic and proactive roles that will place the organizations in a more competitive position.HR must focus on new set of strategic priorities and development of workforce plan designed to support the organization strategic objectives.
