The anti-diabetic effects of the ethanolic extracts of Hymenocardia acida on alloxan induced diabetic rat

ABSTRACT The ethanolic leaves extracts of Hymenocardia acida was screened for anti-diabetic activity based on folklore and little or no work cited in literature. Hymenocardia acida (Family: Hymenocardiaceae) has a very high anti-diabetic potentials which appeared comparable to the control glibenclamide in alloxan induced diabetes mellitus. The study evaluated the ethanolic leaves extract of H. acida for anti-diabetic activity in a rat model of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)....

Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Some Phytochemicals in Diodia Sarmentosa Leaf

Research and reviews are constantly being carried out in order to discover newer, and abundant plant sources of bioactive components which exhibit strong pharmacognostic and biochemical effects. The whole plant of Diodia sarmentosa has a folkloric reputation as an anti-ulcer agent. It is claimed to be useful in herbal medicine for the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections and some other ailments. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of some phytochemicals in Diodia sarmentosa (tro...

THE DETERMINATION OF THE ACTIVITIES AND SPECIFICITY OF ENZYMES IN FERMENTATION OF STARCH-FROM MAIZE

ABSTRACTThe Anatomy of this project write-up encompasses the ordinary look of enzymes as organic molecules; rather it sheds more light into the comprehensive view and determination of the catalytic and specific activity enzymes particularly-DIASTASE, MALTASE and zymase can exploit in industrial application, also critically important is the selective ways of providing fundamental data which allows the society-particularly small-scale brewers to understand and exploit the chemistry of fermentat...

EFFECT OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION OF EMILIA SONCHIFOLIA LEAVE ON GLOBULIN AND BILIRUBIN LEVEL ON WEANLING RAT

color:windowtext">ABSTRACT The place of adequate nutrition in the live of the young especially in the recently weaned cannot be overemphasized. The abrupt change in diet, leading to possible immune system weakness and disease conditions, is a focal point in the care of the young. This project examined serum globulin and bilirubin levels in weanling rats whose feed was supplemented with Emilia sonchifolia leaf extract. The extract was also screened for phytochemical contents and the eff...

Phytochemical Screening And Invivo Antiplasmodial Activity Of Methanol Extract Of Baobab Leaves (Adansonia Digitata)

ABSTRACT Twenty-two healthy albino mice were grouped into A, B, C, D, and E. Group A had six mice while groups B – E had four mice each. The mice were infected with Plasmodium berghei and the methanol extract of the leaves of Adansonia digitata was obtained by maceration extraction method. Phytochemical screening of the plant extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, carbohydrates and cardiac glycosides. The infected mice Group C, D and E were orally treated with the...

ABSTRACT: Research and reviews are continually being carried out in order to discover cheaper and abundant plant sources of bioactive components which exhibit pharmacognostic and biochemical effects.

Effect of Different Organic and Inorganic Nitrogen Sources on the Kinetics of the Breakdown of Crude Oil Using Pseudomonas

ABSTRACTThe option of using microbes in the remediation of polluted sited have received wide acceptance due to its sustainability and environmental friendliness. This study is aimed at using the kinetic parameters (Vmax and Km) to assess the effect of organic and inorganic nitrogen sources on the performance of Pseudomonas sp., during the remediation of crude oil polluted sites. The rate of crude oil breakdown was assessed by determining the total petroleum hydrocarbon in the soil (after cont...

A STUDY ON PHYSIO CHEMICAL AND QUALITATIVE TRAITS ON SOME RICE VARIETIES (Oryza sativa)

INTRODUCTION This is a Biotechnology project on study of Physio chemical and Qualitative traits on some Rice Varieties (Oryza Sativa). Rice is the world’s most important food crop and a major source of food for more than half the world’s population. Rice could be a staple food for simple fraction of the population within the world. Rice could be a wholesome nutritive cereal grain that possesses uncommon dietary necessities. Rice is one in all the foremost food product crops within th...

Development of Biochemistry Liquid stable reagents used for the estimation of Sodium and Potassium electrolytes in blood serum

INTRODUCTION This is the good Bio-Technology project on "development of biochemistry liquid stable reagents used for the estimation of Sodium and Potassium electrolytes in blood serum", which covers study based on Sodium and Potassium reagents. Chemical pathology (more commonly known as clinical biochemistry or clinical chemistry) is the area of pathology that is generally concerned with analysis of body fluids and extracts and will be used in this report This research study is based on S...

ANTIOXIDANTS AS STRATEGY AGAINST METAL EXPOSURE

Abstract Oxidative stress contributes to the pathophysiology of exposure to heavy metals. Beneficial renal effects of some medications, such as chelation therapy depend at least partially on the ability to alleviate oxidative stress. The administration of various natural or synthetic antioxidants has been shown to be of benefit in the prevention and attenuation of metal induced biochemical alterations. These include vitamins, N-acetylcysteine, α-lipoic acid, melatonin, dietary flavonoids...

ANTI-FUNGAL ACTIVITY AND MINERAL COMPOSITIONS OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF PLANTAIN (MUSA PARADISIACA)

ABSTRACT Musa paradisiaca is mainly grown in the tropical and subtropical countries and widely used for its nutritional values all over the world. The fruit as well as the peels and leaves are used to treat different diseases in human in traditional medicine. This study presents the mineral compositions and antifungal activity of ethanol extract of Musa paradisiaca peel and leaf. The ethanol extracts showed antifungal action against : Candidia albicans (peel:15.67±0.58, leaf: 12.67±0...

Evaluation of the Immunomodulatory Effect of Oral Administration of Methanol Extract of Gongronema Latifolium (Utazi) In Wistar Albino Rats.

ABSTRACT CHAPTER ONE 1.0INTRODUCTION We are constantly being exposed to infectious agents and yet, in most cases, we are able to resist these infections. It is our immune system that enables us to resist infections.  The immune system can be defined as a network of lymphoid organs, tissues and cells and also the products of these cells. The main function of immune system is to protect the body against infectious microbes or foreign substances (Abbas and Lichtman, 2005). Each structure of the...
